The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved multiple routine items on Feb. 25, including the consent agenda (with a correction to an earlier minutes date), renewal of administrators and staff contracts for the 2025'26 school year, and first readings of several board policies.
The consent agenda passed after board members agreed to correct an incorrect meeting date in the draft minutes from "February 20" to "February 10." The board then approved annual renewals that authorize the district to prepare and issue contracts for administrators, certified staff, psychologists, support services staff and hourly employees for the 2025'26 school year.
On policy, the board approved first readings of several revised policies; the changes were described by staff as mostly cosmetic and technical edits. Policies given a first read included Policy 1-301 (Rules of Order), Policy 5-408 (Hazing Prevention) and Policy 5-203 (Students with Disabilities/IDEA). The board also took a first read of Policy 5-204 (Students with Disabilities: Procedural Safeguards), where trustees discussed wording in a subsection that currently uses "may" when referring to reporting crimes committed by a child with a disability. Superintendent Shane McCord said he would seek clarification from the district attorney and return that guidance to the policy committee.
