Wyoming Area School Board adopts Policy 237 allowing Yondr phone pouches after months of debate

The Wyoming Area School Board on Feb. 25, 2025 approved revised Policy 237 governing student cell-phone use and endorsed purchasing a phone-management system commonly known as Yondr bags, following more than two hours of public comment and board debate.

Board members and administrators said the policy change grew out of a multi-stakeholder committee and aims to reduce instructional interruptions, social-media incidents and classroom distractions. Superintendent Dr. John Pollard told the board that the district’s PCCD grant was written to include funding for police officer staffing, a crisis worker and ‘‘contracting the yonder bags,’’ and that the board had discussed implementing the bags at the start of the next school year.
