Pitkin County signs letter backing regional energy‑code grant with CORE and Walking Mountain

Pitkin County commissioners agreed during a work session to sign a letter of support for a collaborative grant application to the Colorado Energy Office from CORE (Colorado Off‑Grid and Renewable Energy) and Walking Mountain Science Center.
Michael Port, the county’s climate action analyst, and John Doherty of CORE described a proposal to use Colorado Energy Office implementation funding to help communities align energy and building codes, produce locality‑specific checklists for builders and deliver training and outreach to contractors and architects. The project would build on a regional roadmap CORE and Walking Mountain developed last year and would centralize checklists on CORE’s Building Performance Hub to make design and permitting expectations easier for contractors across Pitkin, Eagle and neighboring counties.
Commissioners approved the letter of support and authorized the chair to sign it; staff will route the letter through DocuSign for final signature.
