Orange County commissioners unanimously deny proposed septage facility on Satellite Boulevard

Orange County commissioners on Tuesday unanimously rejected a developer pplication for a septage management facility at 10002 Satellite Boulevard after extensive public hearings that drew dozens of speakers both for and against the project.

The board enied Special Exception SE2408067, a request to operate a facility that would accept and process grease-trap waste and septic holding-tank material, following a motion by Commissioner Olga Uribe and a second from Commissioner Scott. The vote was recorded as unanimous.

Why it mattered: Opponents argued the proposed operation, which would sit inside a heavy-industrial zoning district but within a mile of residences, schools and commercial businesses, posed unacceptable risks of odor, noise, truck traffic and potential environmental releases.
