Waukesha finance committee recommends $77,406 carryover to 2025 general fund

The Waukesha City Finance Committee on Feb. 25 voted to recommend carrying $77,406 from the 2024 operating budget into the city's 2025 general fund.
Joe Sherrill, a city finance staff member, told the committee this carryover request is part of the city's normal year‑end process for nonlapsing general fund balances. He said the requested total includes roughly $36,000 for human resources recruitment, about $23,000 for police honor guard and body armor, approximately $13,000 in library grant funds, about $2,400 for billings and grounds, and just over $2,100 in hazmat grant funding.
"We generally have a lot of different funds that we do discuss carryovers...this is a pretty typical process that we follow each year," Sherrill said, noting the total asked for this year is slightly lower than the prior year, when the committee approved $88,785 in carryovers.
A motion to recommend approval passed on a voice vote; a second was offered by Alderman McElderly and the item passed unanimously. Committee members did not raise substantive objections during the discussion.
Finance staff noted that the city will review carryovers for other funds, including capital carry forwards, at upcoming March meetings.
