The powder-coated option is a coated version of the typical highway guardrail intended to blend with the area’s streetscape; staff said the coating affects appearance more than structural life and that the powder coating is performed locally.
Council members discussed longevity, cost and visual impact. One council member suggested community input; others said the higher-cost option better fits the investment in the area and that the budget approved during the budget process can absorb the additional $10,000. No separate vote was required—the council provided direction and staff confirmed the powder-coated option fits the approved budget.
Staff will proceed with final siting and installation plans and coordinate any community outreach if the council requests it prior to installation.
