City council selects Roger Berry sculpture for Washington Neighborhood Park after fabrication concerns delay alternate work

At the October 28 commission meeting, Reinertsen presented a customized concept. The commission recommended Reinertsen's custom piece provided it could be fabricated and installed within budget and on time.
Leake told the commission staff later discovered a high likelihood that Reinertsens piece could crack or break during fabrication, which might require multiple iterations and increase cost and schedule risk. Because of those risks, staff recommended that the City Council proceed with the alternative preferred piece by Roger Berry. Leake said Council approved moving forward with Berry's work, which staff described as locally produced and deliverable within the parks timeline.
Leake said staff will continue to post updates on the park improvements and on the public-art installation schedule.
