Friends group reports $125,000 in donations; bookshop raises most operating funds

"This year alone we have donated approximately $125,000 to the library," Jaggers said during her report. She outlined Friends' recent activities, including author events, the Corona Tree Lighting (where the Friends handed out 500 books), free Santa photo sessions for about 200 children, and donations of poinsettias and funds for new tables and chairs in a library meeting room.
Jaggers said the Friends' bookshop is the primary revenue source; Charice, the Friends' treasurer (Trustee Charice Leonard referenced the figure), said the bookshop brings in between $90,000 and $100,000 annually from used-book sales. Given that steady revenue, the Friends decided to move their Ladders and Linguine fundraiser to every other year because the event is labor-intensive; the friends estimated Ladders and Linguine raised about $15,000 when it ran.
Trustees and staff discussed coordinating advocacy with the Friends. Donna Fitch, community services director, said the city is in budget season and that library staff have submitted requests for additional funding this year, including funds for print and electronic resources. Fitch said councilmembers had expressed support and that the city had begun backfilling previous funding shortfalls.
Ending: Trustees praised the Friends for outreach and fundraising and noted the Friends and library plan further community events and smaller fundraisers in off years to sustain support.
