The House Committee on Taxation approved two requests to introduce proposed measures and closed related business during its meeting.
A request to introduce a surrogate bill on behalf of Holton Community Hospital was presented as authorizing Jackson County to raise a quarter-cent county sales tax for the hospital. The committee approved the introduction request without objection; an RS number referenced during the discussion was 0222.
Later in the session the chair described a separate property-tax-relief concept submitted for introduction as RS 25RS0822. That request would reinstitute a demand transfer fund of $60,000,000 for local governments, distributed on an incentive basis tied to CPI and growth factors, and would implement a protest petition process aimed at limiting property-tax increases. The committee approved that introduction request.
The chair also asked members to review committee minutes from meetings held Jan. 29 through Feb. 17; members will consider approving those minutes at the next meeting.
