Acting Auditor‑Controller Sarah Pierce briefed the Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 on cannabis tax payment‑plan activity initiated in 2023. The payment‑plan option had been offered so cultivators with delinquent cannabis taxes could remain in the renewal queue while addressing arrears.
Pierce told the board 27 cultivators entered payment plans by the 2023 deadline; three of those plans were satisfied using LEAP funds, 14 plans have defaulted, and 11 plans remain active and are being manually tracked. "The total collected on the cannabis payment plan since 2023 is $92,000," Pierce said, and she added county staff are not currently pursuing collections on defaulted cannabis payment plans because of staffing constraints.
Pierce said the county is working with the Cannabis Department to improve automated tracking and reporting of licensees and payment status going forward and that staff can provide the numbers to supervisors via email.
Ending: Supervisors thanked staff for the accounting update and asked for a follow‑up email with the detailed figures and any planned changes to the tracking process.
