Perez said that if the district had ended the school year in January it would have “a little over 2.8 [million] to contribute to fund balance,” but she cautioned that the district is currently about 100 average daily attendance (ADA) students below budget, which will reduce the actual contribution.
On operations, the board heard that a regional diesel shortage and closed diesel racks had left no fuel bids available for the district to approve. A district staff member described the situation at one local rack: “Everybody's trucks are setting because there's no diesel coming out of Sunray,” and the district said short-term fuel purchases would be arranged until regular bidding resumes.
Transportation and operations staff told the board they have acquired a passenger van that will be wrapped with district graphics to serve the fleet’s needs; staff said the new van will supplement existing vehicles and fit the district’s needs.
Other operational updates included praise for the maintenance and IT departments after an internet problem that affected productivity; IT staff said they have implemented a permanent solution. The district also discussed updating door numbering at some campuses for safety and communications purposes.
