A corrected version of House Bill 420 (LC520769S) that clarifies coverage for cancer-related genetic testing was advanced by the House Insurance Committee after the chair reported a substitute-copy error had been fixed.
The chair said the committee previously passed the bill but that the copy forwarded to rules contained an incorrect LC number; the corrected version now in members’ packets reflects the intended language. The bill covers genetic testing for people who have a family member diagnosed with cancer and specifies that benefits for that testing “will be payable as any other benefit would be,” subject to any deductible or copay that applies.
“This bill covers genetic testing if you have a family member that has had been diagnosed with cancer,” Representative Taylor said, explaining the change was limited to the correct LC number and that there is no special charge: “It'll have a deductible and a co pay, but there's no special charge or whatever. It'll be paid like anything else.”
Committee members asked no substantive questions during the brief presentation. The committee approved the corrected bill by voice vote without recorded opposition.
The committee chair instructed the author to submit required paperwork following passage.
