Board approves donation of surplus county computers to Olive Charitable Organization safe house

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. — The Board of Supervisors on Feb. 25 approved, on consent, the transfer of surplus county computers to Olive Charitable Organization for use at its safe house for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking.
April Molina, director of Olive Charitable Organization, told the board the laptops will be used to help the organization’s residents with school enrollment, job searches and internet access. Molina described a recent case in which a 19-year-old survivor is being connected to continuation school and independent living programs.
Molina thanked county staff — she specifically mentioned Jay Varney — and the board for the donation and said the equipment will be distributed to residents as needs arise. The consent calendar item was approved by roll call and recorded as a unanimous 5–0 vote.
Details: Molina said the donated equipment will supplement limited nonprofit budgets and reduce costs of buying new laptops for residents. She said the organization coordinates with local partners including the county CSEC (commercially sexually exploited children) unit and Independent Living Program (ILP) services.
