Supervisors direct staff to apply for 2024 CalHome funds for home repair, first‑time buyer and home-hardening programs

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. — County planning staff told supervisors Feb. 25 that they will submit an application to the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s (HCD) CalHome program under the 2024 NOFA to support a mix of housing programs.
Jamie Backs of Community and Economic Development said the county proposal would include acquisition programs, assistance for first-time homebuyers, manufactured-home repairs and major repair projects. Staff also said they intend to include home-hardening measures to help homeowners in higher fire-risk areas to reduce wildfire vulnerability.
If the application is successful, staff told the board they will return with the required HCD resolutions and bring funding agreements back for board approval. The board approved moving forward with the application by a unanimous roll-call vote.
