Senator Pappas presented the joint resolution and described it as "a pretty simple bill" to honor the NCSL milestone. He said similar language had been used in an informal Senate resolution the prior year and that several states are submitting formally identical language. "This is simply a resolution to, honor, that, milestone," he told the committee.
Committee members briefly discussed the resolution language to ensure the founding year was correct. Senator Pappas and others confirmed the organization was founded in 1975 and that 2025 constitutes its 50th year. No amendments were offered.
Representative Geringer moved to advance the joint resolution and Representative Wiley seconded the motion. Donna, the committee clerk, called the roll: Representatives Banks, Geringer, Larson, McCann, Nicholas, Posey, Tarver, Wiley and Chairman Brown recorded ayes. The clerk announced "9 aye." The motion passed.
The resolution is ceremonial and does not require implementation by a state agency. The committee’s action sends the adopted resolution forward as a formal recognition of NCSL's 50th anniversary in 2025.
