If the owner does not enter the abatement agreement, the city may proceed to abate and place the costs on the property tax roll, and, if necessary, commence court proceedings to gain access.
Council discussion was brief; several council members and nearby residents said the property has been a long‑running issue. Council Member West moved to send the abatement letter with an April 1 compliance date; Council Member Bray Johnson seconded. The motion passed unanimously, 5‑0.
The council directed staff to send the letter promptly. The city attorney told the council the owner would have 10 days to respond to the proposed agreement per the city's standard process.
