Floor Leader Hong, a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, presented House Bill 486 (LC 443048) and House Resolution 273 (LC 443033) to the State Planning & Community Affairs committee seeking formal recognition of Incheon, South Korea, as a sister city with Georgia.
“Essentially, what it does is, it will make Incheon, which is a city in South Korea, a sister city state with Georgia,” Floor Leader Hong said, adding that he included a letter from the mayor of Incheon and support from the consul general of South Korea. He said the move would recognize long-standing business and cultural ties between Georgia and South Korea.
Committee members expressed support without extended debate. Representative McLean moved to advance House Bill 486; a second was heard and the committee approved the measure by voice vote. The committee then considered the companion House resolution; Representative Griffin moved the resolution and, after a brief procedural delay to furnish copies, the resolution was approved by voice vote.
Committee members made light remarks about Korean food and local Korean-American communities during the exchange but offered no substantive amendments to either measure. The record shows both the bill and the resolution were approved at the committee meeting.
Copies of the resolution were distributed to committee members immediately after the vote, the chair said.
