Board approves consent agenda including $75,000 grant for Germantown Community Theater

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Germantown approved the meeting agenda, the minutes of Feb. 10 and the consent agenda during its Feb. 24 meeting. The consent agenda included appointments, contract amendments and several purchases and grants, notably a $75,000 grant to the Germantown Community Theater.
Vice Mayor Gibson moved to adopt the Feb. 24 agenda; Alderman Scott Sanders seconded. The board approved the agenda by roll call; the clerk recorded affirmative votes by Vice Mayor Gibson, Alderman Sherry Hicks, Alderman Brian Yulecki, Alderman Salvaggio and Alderman Scott Sanders.
Alderman Brian Yulecki moved to approve the minutes of the Feb. 10 regularly scheduled meeting; the motion was seconded by Alderman Hicks and approved by roll call.
Alderman Yulecki then moved to approve the consent agenda “as read into the record”; Alderman Sanders seconded. The clerk called the roll and the consent agenda passed with the same affirmative votes.
Key items read into the record as part of the consent agenda included:
- Reappointment of Leslie Acerra to the Shelby County Solid Waste Region Board for a six-year term (item 8a). - Contract amendment and extension for herbicide, fertilizer and late maintenance treatment services, approximately $159,000 (item 8b). - Fireworks contract extension, approximately $30,500 over three years (item 8c). - Donation of $2,000 for first-aid supplies for the Germantown Police Department (item 8d). - A $75,000 grant to Germantown Community Theater to support youth training and community-theater programming (item 8e). - Public-education government disbursement to Germantown Municipal School District (approx. $24,000) for the second quarter (item 8f). - Professional services agreement for engineering for the Dogwood Grove drainage project (approx. $150,000) (item 8g). - Annual network maintenance contract (approx. $79,000) (item 8h). - Printing and mailing services for utility billing (approx. $139,000) (item 8i). - Purchase of public-safety radios (approx. $131,000) (item 8j). - Purchase of weather sirens (approx. $47,000); the transcript notes funding made available through Shelby County Commissioner Brandon Morrison (item 8k).
During Citizens to Be Heard, Robin Sharp, president of the Germantown Community Theater board, thanked the city for historic support and said the theater could not operate without municipal backing. “Without this support, we would not exist,” Sharp said, adding that the theater reached more than 10,000 people last year and is preparing for season 54.
No individual consent item was pulled for separate consideration. The board did not discuss individual line items at length during the meeting; the consent agenda was approved as a block vote.
