The Montebello Traffic and Safety Commission voted to deny an application to install a disabled parking (blue curb) space at 1401 South Spruce Street after staff concluded the property has sufficient on-site parking.
Staff told commissioners the request was first discussed in November 2024 and that staff had reviewed on-site vehicle maneuvering and the property’s driveway configuration. "Once we confirmed ... that wasn't the case, we stated that they had enough room on-site to just ingress egress from the front of the garage," staff said, summarizing their rationale for recommending denial. Staff also said they contacted the property owner by phone and invited them to the meeting; the owner did not attend.
Commissioners expressed some uncertainty and said they would have liked the resident to appear in person. Staff said the resident had known about the item since their original request in September/October 2024 and that the item had been on a previous agenda; staff said the owner was contacted again the week before the meeting.
A motion to deny the blue-curb request carried on roll call. The commission’s roll call readout recorded Aye votes and the chair announced the motion passed. Staff noted the commission could reconsider the request if additional information were provided.
