Board authorizes RFP for 2024 pension‑fund audit after incumbent unable to perform peer review

The Lackawanna County Employees Retirement Fund pension board authorized a request for proposals to audit the fund for the year ended Dec. 31, 2024, after the regular auditor told trustees his small firm cannot complete the engagement because of peer‑review rules.
During the meeting a board member introduced Motion 25‑5‑21 to approve issuing an RFP for the 12/31/2024 audit. A board speaker explained that the usual auditor, Joe Allou, contacted the board to say he cannot perform the audit this year because of the peer‑review process and that the board therefore needs to solicit proposals from larger firms.
The presenter said the RFP responses will be reviewed and a special meeting may be scheduled to approve the selected auditor. Trustees approved the RFP authorization during the same meeting.
