Planners begin Grand Island master plan process; advisory boards to contribute to Natural Resource Inventory

The Grand Island master plan process moved forward after a kickoff meeting with planners, representatives from advisory boards and stakeholders. Board members described a well‑attended meeting — roughly a dozen participants — in which planners outlined stages, outreach plans and expected deliverables.
Planners and the advisory board emphasized that the Natural Resource Inventory (NRI) should be usable by town departments, engineers and developers and integrated with GIS. Members said consultants will seek to rely on existing datasets while filling gaps with expert local knowledge. “What information is going to be contained in the NRI is going to be primarily driven by: can it be used and how can it be used?” a participant said.
Consultants named in the meeting included Jenny (a GIS specialist) from Prospect Hill and Robin Drake (consultant). The board discussed incorporating climate-susceptibility analysis, invasive-species mapping and possible grant opportunities tied to climate resilience components.
Planners will return scheduling information and materials; board members said the next meeting is likely in April and that advisory-board representatives will participate in future plan stages and public outreach.
