The Bloomfield Hills Schools curriculum and instruction committee reported on Feb. 24 that its priorities for the coming months include follow-up on the Bridges math rollout, summer-school and extended-day programming, deeper review of I-Ready assessment data, planning around artificial intelligence and continued work on a high-school cell-phone policy.
Committee members said the February 11 meeting was a “reset” to set the workplan for the next several months. The committee will shepherd stakeholder input processes — including teacher and student pilots and data review — when curriculum adoptions come up for renewal. “IReady is something that came up that we'll be looking at multiple times as we continue to go deeper,” a committee speaker said, noting repeated benchmark assessments and lab visits to collect teacher feedback.
Trustees and staff described curriculum adoption as a multi-year process. The committee expects math and other subject adoptions on multi-year review cycles and said the process typically includes piloting, teacher feedback and analysis of achievement data. The committee also identified dyslexia-related legislation, equal opportunity and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate (AP/IB) topics for future work.
On the high-school cell-phone policy, the committee said it expects to reach clearer direction “by the end of the school year” after further discussion and stakeholder feedback. The committee also listed band and music equipment purchases and facility move-management for elementary schools among items requiring follow-up.
The committee emphasized multiple feedback channels: student achievement data (FastBridge and I-Ready), teacher input collected through math labs and teacher-leader visits, and stakeholder engagement during piloting. Members said the committee will bring forward specific recommendations when adoptions or significant purchases are imminent.
