Greyhound Performing Arts Center fundraising begins; site at Aldo Elementary confirmed

District committee members reported Feb. 24 that work to advance the Greyhound Performing Arts Center project has moved into a fundraising phase and that the location for the project will remain at Aldo Elementary after a targeted $17,000,000 donation to move the facility to the high school did not materialize.

The committee said multiple stakeholder meetings have been held in recent weeks and that the group will present more concrete drawings and a proposed budget to the full board between mid‑March and April. Committee members described the effort as “phase 1” of fundraising and said community stakeholders, teachers and district leaders are involved in planning.

Board members and the committee described the plan as districtwide in use: once completed the facility would be available to schools across the district and to some community groups. Committee presenters said the goal is to have the project completed so that the district’s current freshman class would be able to use the facility as seniors — a timeline of roughly two years if fundraising and design proceed on schedule.

Committee members emphasized ongoing stakeholder engagement and the need for additional donations to meet project scope. The committee said the initial high‑school relocation plan depended on a large private donation that was not secured; as a result the project remains sited at Aldo, with a district name planned as the Greyhound Performing Arts Center and use available to all district buildings.

No formal board action on the project was recorded at the Feb. 24 meeting; the committee said it will return with drawings and a proposed budget for board review and action once those materials are complete.
