Passaic council approves tax-abatement ordinance; clears multiple routine items
Summary

The Passaic City Council on Feb. 20 adopted Proposed Ordinance 24-77-25, amending Chapter 275 (Taxation) to revise definitions and the tax exemption on improvements in dwellings, and cleared multiple routine communications and agenda items by roll call.
The ordinance amending Chapter 275 passed unanimously after the council opened and closed the required public hearing and took a final roll-call vote. Council members voted in favor on recorded roll calls during the meeting; no roll-call opposition was recorded for the ordinance.
Councillors then voted to accept grouped communications and agenda items across the evening. The council approved communications/items 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 by roll call; later the council accepted additional grouped items (8–11, 14–24) and voted to accept payment of bills and other routine matters. One separate vote on items 4 and 5 recorded an abstention by a council member during roll call.
The council also introduced an ordinance amending the designation of restricted parking for disabled persons to reference an emergency license plate number; the council set a second and final reading and hearing for March 18, 2025.
Separately, the council approved a motion to convene an executive session later in the meeting to discuss matters related to an agenda item reporting structural inspection findings on a city parking deck. The motion to enter executive session passed on a roll call.
