Valley County commissioners on Feb. 24 approved an agreement with Chase to accept online payments for e-recording, a change the clerk/recorder's office said will let title companies and members of the public search and pay for recorded documents online.
The clerk's office representative told commissioners the county has tested redaction procedures and is confident the software can safely present documents online. "We've double checked that, triple checked that, so now we're confident we can begin implementing the software to be able to have individuals go online to see our recordings that are available," the clerk's office representative said during the meeting.
Under the arrangement the county will use Tyler Technologies' integrated portal for searching recorded documents; Chase will act as the payment processor, collecting fees from users and then forwarding funds to the county through the treasurer's office. The clerk's office said final user fees for large or bulk document requests are still under consideration.
Commissioners moved and seconded the motion to sign the merchant payment-processing agreement with Chase; the board voted unanimously in favor.
Commissioners asked that the agreement be signed by the chair on behalf of the county and requested the clerk's office return with any final fee schedule after staff determines charges for large or bulk downloads.
