The plan, presented by Stephanie Groll, director of transportation planning in the Community Development Department, lays out a mix of strategies intended to cut transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions by shifting trips to walking, biking, micro‑mobility and transit, and by electrifying the remaining car and truck trips. “This plan will be critical to creating measurable and accountable goals so that we have the ability to track our progress over time and make changes and adjust if necessary,” Councillor Nolan said at the hearing.
Staff told the committee that technical modeling and current programs already in motion account for roughly 68% of the reductions needed to reach net‑zero in the transportation sector; the plan focuses on the additional measures required to close the remaining gap.
