Committee authorizes settlement for downtown building, denies assessment claims and holds another settlement file

The Milwaukee Common Council Judiciary and Legislation Committee on Feb. 24 approved a settlement resolving multiple years of assessment litigation for a downtown property and recommended denial of a batch of assessment claims filed with the city.

Assistant City Attorney Hannah Yan, who advises the assessor’s office, told the committee that the file before the body included 51 assessment claims submitted under the statutory January deadline. Assessment staff reviewed the claims and recommended denial, which the committee ordered; denial allows taxpayers to file circuit-court challenges if they wish.

The committee also approved a settlement with Fulcrum 250 East LLC resolving assessment litigation for the 250 East Wisconsin building for $13,310.54.
