Planning committee approves sale of Hickory Street lot; three ordinances set for public hearing or further action

The Akron City Council Planning Committee voted to authorize the sale of a city-owned parcel on Hickory Street (Parcel 67646152) for residential development and read several proposed ordinances into the record for public hearings.

Mr. Holman appeared before the committee seeking authorization to sell the Hickory Street lot for development of a single-family home. He said the sale would be "for the regular dollar per square foot" (language used in the meeting); the committee did not specify a numeric sale price or additional sale terms in the record. A member moved the item to the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and members signified their approval by saying "aye." The committee recorded the approval and the item will proceed as part of tonight's council reporting.

Separately, the committee had staff read three ordinances into the record for advertised public hearings: an ordinance amending Title 15, Chapter 153 (zoning code) Article 6 of the City of Akron form-based code to amend fencing requirements (item 1); an ordinance authorizing a conditional use to establish a dual-use cannabis dispensary at 235 East Waterloo Road (item 2); and an ordinance authorizing sale of the Hickory Street parcel, describing the parcel as "Parcel 67646152 less bafta" and declaring the property not needed for public use (item 3). The record shows the ordinances were read for public hearing; no public testimony on those items was recorded in the committee discussion.

The committee adjourned after handling the items. Several committee housekeeping items were also completed earlier in the meeting, including acceptance of minutes by voice vote.
