DSS accepts $20,494 in state ARPA/EJA funds for adult protective services

Saratoga County—s Department of Social Services will accept $20,494 in state funding redistributed from unused balances of ARPA/Elder Justice Acts funds to support adult protective services (APS), the Health and Human Services Committee approved on Feb. 4.
A department representative identified in the meeting as Patrick (Department of Social Services staff) told the committee the funds will be used for staff training and conference fees, minor office equipment, homemaker supplies, regular wages, and primarily for wrap-around services for clients who are the subject of APS investigations. "The combined funding is $20,494 The purpose of the funding is to provide resources to enhance, improve, and expand the ability of adult protective services to investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation," he said. He also said the department handles roughly 400 to 600 reports annually and that last year there were 494 APS investigations.
The speaker characterized the award as flexible funding compared with other line-item restricted funds and referred to the allocation informally as a third tranche of ARPA funds redistributed statewide. The resolution authorizes the chairman and/or the commissioner of social services to submit required documentation to the Office of Children and Family Services to claim the funding.
The committee moved and approved the resolution by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
