Council members on June 1 publicly recognized Jesse Juarez for his leadership of the Information Technology Agency (ITA) and for leading city technology efforts including Y2K preparedness and several e-government initiatives.
Council member Padilla and others praised Juarez’s work establishing the citywide electronic forms project, an e-permit system for the Department of Building and Safety and an automated inspection request system. Council members described Juarez’s tenure at ITA as “brisk and meaningful,” and said his work advanced the city’s technology infrastructure. Juarez told the council he accepted a private-sector job as chief information officer for a national company, Regulus, and said the decision to leave was difficult.
Colleagues from across the council thanked Juarez for his contributions and wished him luck. Staff and council members planned to take photos after the presentations and to present a formal resolution of thanks.
Why it matters: Juarez led several projects the council cited as foundational for the city’s move into e-government and digital services; his departure creates a leadership transition at ITA during a period of ongoing technology projects.
What’s next: Juarez will depart for the private sector; the council and mayor’s office will coordinate ITA leadership succession and ongoing project support.
