County staff outlines EV charger installs, fleet‑conversion study and energy rebate outreach

County sustainability staff told the Environmental Sustainability Board on Feb. 20, 2025, that Los Alamos County is moving forward on EV infrastructure and a fleet conversion plan, and is conducting outreach on available energy-efficiency and electrification incentives.
Staff said council approved funds to replace and upgrade public electric vehicle chargers in the municipal parking lot with modern Level 2 chargers; the new units are planned to be ADA-compatible and more reliable. The county also has started a fleet conversion and community EV-charging plan with a consultant; staff said the effort is collecting electrical, fleet-utilization and facility data and will meet every two weeks while developing recommendations for vehicle replacement and charging siting.
Staff added that the county has held internal workshops on state and federal incentives. State programs include income-qualified rebates (for certain appliance replacements and insulation) that use a coupon model through participating retailers; separate federal tax credits also apply for eligible electrification work. Staff encouraged residents to take advantage of available rebates and credits while funding lasts.
In other service metrics, staff reported a January diversion rate of 21% and noted that the county is currently hauling waste to a landfill outside the immediate region; staff said details about a potential regional landfill feasibility study are under way but no site has been identified.
No board action or budget authorization was taken at the meeting; staff said the fleet conversion and charging plan would continue and staff would return with timeline milestones.
