Superintendent reports DEN housing project nearing occupancy; alarms installed, landscaping and final payments remain

Superintendent Doctor Stewart updated the board on the district's DEN housing project during the Feb. 20 meeting, saying the project has moved into the final completion phase but still needs landscaping and final contract resolution before occupancy.
Stewart said alarm systems were installed in the three houses this week and that the district is awaiting landscaping completion to pursue permanent certificates of occupancy and begin leasing. She also said she was negotiating final payments and liquidated-damage calculations with the contractor (G Con) and planned to pursue local grant dollars to offset landscaping costs.
"As soon as the landscaping's done, we can get our permanent certificate of occupancy and can start leasing houses," Stewart said. She described landscaping quotes as higher than expected and said she preferred quality work to cheaply done appearance work in the neighborhood.
Stewart added the district would contact a third party that had expressed interest in adding houses and that doing so would require a request-for-qualifications process. The superintendent said she would return with status updates to the board and that leasing revenue would help the district's ongoing operations.
