The House Judiciary Committee approved language described by the sponsor as a technical "cleanup" to implement last year's decision to move Georgia's tax tribunal into the judicial branch and stand up a tax court.
The sponsor told the committee the bill is not intended to change substantive appellate rights but instead to correct statutory language so the newly created court can properly receive pending tax cases and ensure appellate review will proceed directly to the Court of Appeals. "This is just a much cleaner process," the sponsor said, calling it a transition and implementation bill.
The measure (House Bill 392, LC 280667) received a motion, a second and a voice vote in committee. The committee voted in favor with no recorded opposition and reported the bill favorably.
Ending
Committee members described the bill as procedural housekeeping to allow the administrative court work envisioned under prior legislation to begin operating under the judicial branch; the bill was reported favorably and will continue through the legislative process.
