YMCA: pools, splash pad and staffing on track for Memorial Day season

The Huber Heights Parks & Recreation Board heard an update from YMCA-affiliated staff that the aquatic center water will be turned on April 7 and that pool operations are being readied for a Memorial Day weekend opening.
The presenter said county health inspection is scheduled in May and that the department is actively hiring lifeguards and other seasonal positions to staff the pools. The splash pad is scheduled to have water turned on in April; Public Works staff are to investigate rotary work on some pipes to improve flow and carry the facility through one or two more seasons, depending on future capital decisions.
Board members and YMCA staff also discussed scheduling for recreational tennis/pickleball and a teen clinic; logistics and exact dates remain subject to confirmation. The parks presenter said upcoming pickleball tournaments and clinics are being coordinated with YMCA staff and that a decision on indoor backup space at the YMCA (for weather) is being discussed.
No formal votes were taken on the aquatics items; staff reported they will continue hiring and preparing facilities for the summer season and will notify board members when dates are finalized.
