After debate, Mercer County awards county‑engineer contract to Moore Engineering; one commissioner opposes

Commissioners said they had reviewed seven or eight proposals and interviewed four finalist firms. Several commissioners said they were comfortable with multiple finalists, but some cited familiarity with Moore and its staff as a deciding factor. “My final came down to Moore or Bros,” one commissioner said during discussion. A committee that reviewed interviews recommended finalists; the full board then debated the choice and voted.
A motion to award the county engineering contract to Moore Engineering passed; one commissioner recorded a no vote. Commissioners discussed contracting for a one‑year term with the option to renew while the county gains confidence in the firm’s performance.
Afterwards the commission instructed staff to draft contract language reflecting a one‑year term and to return with any necessary language for signature.
