Board moves to systematic five-year policy review using WASB resource guide

An administrative presenter said the district had previously adopted a large set of WASB-vetted policies and that staff now plan to rotate the remainder through a five-year timeline so no policy’s adoption or review date will exceed five years.
Presenters said about 40 policies from the WASB guide are not yet adopted by the district and will be prioritized in the next review rotation. Staff explained the process: each year the board will review policies in a designated section, adopt new policies where needed, revise existing ones and mark reviewed items so the district avoids having policies older than five years on the books.
Presenters noted legal review is part of the workflow: newly drafted or revised policies will be vetted by WASB legal counsel before final adoption. The board did not take a vote; the discussion served as a staff-led process update and roadmap for forthcoming policy work.
Board members asked clarifying procedural questions. Staff said the goal is clarity and to ensure policies incorporate recommended WASB language where appropriate. No specific policy language changes were adopted at this meeting; that work will appear in future agenda packets as items come up for review.
