The Cheektowaga Zoning Board of Appeals granted an area variance to allow two storage silos that will reach 55 feet at 1730 Dale Road, exceeding the 50-foot maximum height in the M-1 zoning district.
Travis Gresca, representing the project, told the board the planning board granted conditional approval in January subject to the area variance. He said the site is tight and shortening tanks to meet the 50-foot limit would increase their diameter, complicating truck maneuvering. The board discussed alternatives and concluded the dimensional trade-off justified the requested five-foot increase.
A motion to grant the area variance passed unanimously. Board members recorded the vote in favor and noted there were no public objections at the hearing.
The variance was granted as an area variance; the project remains subject to any planning-board conditions and building-permit review.
