A parent told the Middlesex Borough School District board that emails sent to the board of education had been intercepted by the superintendent’s office and redirected to board leaders, and asked how many complaints may have been handled internally rather than by elected board members.
Jeremiah, who identified himself as a parent and resident at 1 20 Shepherd House, said he had previously emailed the board and that the message was "intercepted by the superintendent office" and routed to the president and vice president rather than to the full board. "How many complaints or how many issues have been buried because of this?" Jeremiah asked.
Jeremiah also raised a separate concern about video-recorded behavior, saying he saw an assistant superintendent make a "cutthroat" gesture toward a board official during a prior meeting. He described that conduct as inappropriate and said it was visible on the recording.
A board representative replied that the issue had been addressed on the district website and that staff would confirm where board emails are routed. "We did make it clear on the website. I can confirm exactly where those emails are going," the representative said, adding they would follow up with the parent.
Why it matters: The routing of board emails and the handling of complaints touch on transparency and whether elected board members receive constituent communications promptly. Jeremiah asked for confirmation that complaints are reaching board officers and are not being intercepted by staff before review.
Procedural notes: The public-comment period closed after these remarks. A board member announced that the board did not need an executive session and that the scheduled ethics training was postponed. A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; the meeting then ended.
Speakers quoted in this article appear in the meeting record as: Jeremiah, parent and resident; a board representative who responded during the meeting.
