Council adopts ordinance making Musette Drive enforceable and sets 20 mph limit in Naranja Park

The Oro Valley Town Council on Feb. 19 adopted Ordinance O25-02, amending Town Code 11-3-4 to add Musette Drive in Naranja Park to the list of enforceable streets and to establish a 20 mph speed limit on that roadway. The motion was made by Vice Mayor Barrett and seconded by Council Member Green; the council approved the ordinance 7-0.
Town staff opened a public hearing on the item but recorded no public speakers. Vice Mayor Barrett said constituent complaints about speeding through Naranja Park prompted the ordinance request. Police Chief Riley confirmed officers have received complaints and cited one collision and one DUI arrest in the park as part of the department’s interest in improved enforcement; he said the department’s emphasis is on education and prevention.
Town engineer Paul explained that Oro Valley’s default posted speed is 25 mph unless the code specifies otherwise and that engineering review indicated 20 mph was the prudent limit for Musette Drive given its park setting and design.
Council Members asked questions about how the speed limit was selected and enforcement approaches. Members voted to approve the ordinance without amendment and did not receive public comment during the hearing.
