A staff member told the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau board that 16 artists applied for an artist-in-residence pilot program at the Girardi House, and the bureau plans to select up to three artists to participate at one time in the pilot.
The artist-in-residence program is part of a broader set of arts initiatives the bureau is advancing. Staff described a major mural planned for the plaza at Main Street and the I‑45 feeder road; the mural’s work will begin after asphalt resurfacing is complete, with contractors and the lead artist scheduling painting in mid‑March or early April and estimating about a month to finish.
Staff also reported that the city’s music‑friendly certification effort is moving forward. The music industry advisory group has met twice and includes members of the League City Folk Association, the League City Historical Society and local music-school owners. The CVB staff said Texas Music Office representatives will attend a concert on Saturday, April 26, and present during the event.
Other upcoming arts-related events noted to the board included a single Saturday‑night jazz performance planned for May 24 and a larger community arts festival that staff described as the fourth annual edition, scheduled for June 14. Staff said the festival has grown each year and that the CVB screens artists to ensure suitability for a family audience.
Board members were informed that the city will reuse the Girardi House as studio space and that the mural work is coordinated with a resurfacing project in a plaza parking area that includes Dollar Tree and nearby businesses. Staff emphasized timing for painting is tied to contractors’ asphalt schedule and local weather.
The board heard descriptions of outreach to arts partners and volunteer organizations as the bureau integrates the arts programming into broader tourism and event promotion.
