Lauren, the ballpark’s business development manager, told the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau board that the ballpark will host opening ceremonies for a youth World Baseball Classic on Thursday, March 13, beginning at 6 p.m. She said the ceremonies are expected to run into the evening and that organizers are planning activities for the night.
The event matters for League City because organizers expect large visitor volumes and broad sponsorship support that could raise the park’s profile and local economic activity. Lauren said the tournament will bring an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 visitors to the park daily, and a total of roughly 23,000 to 30,000 attendees over the multi-day event.
Lauren said the ballpark has secured more than 20 sponsors and vendors for the tournament, naming Rawlings, Jason’s Deli and Raising Cane’s among contributors. She said national and local brands are participating and that some “big leaguers” will attend: “Dusty Baker will be at our opening ceremonies for this event,” Lauren said. Organizers also plan to invite mascots from Minute Maid and the Sugar Land Space Cowboys and to use a local dealership truck to transport special guests during the opening ceremony.
Staff told the board that the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) will provide volunteers serving as a first-aid unit. Lauren said she has been communicating directly with teams and partner organizations since she joined the ballpark staff three months ago and that hotels are already booked for many visiting teams.
The ballpark will host a welcome table during the opening ceremony; board members and staff discussed staffing that table and offering visitor information. Lauren said she would provide a finalized script for the ceremony and estimated staff should arrive by about 5 to 5:30 p.m. on the night of March 13.
Staff also described marketing and technology elements tied to the event and to ongoing sponsorship sales. The ballpark has produced seat-back stickers containing a QR code that links to the League City visitor page; organizers said the QR system can be customized so sponsors link directly to promotions or storefronts. Lauren described sponsorship packages that include scoreboard digital ads, naming-rights opportunities, and placement on seat backs and stadium signage. She said the scoreboard company advised there is high demand for digital ads.
Lauren described a planned “fan zone” in which supporters could purchase a portrait or family headshot that would appear in a replicated section of the stands. She said the initiative is intended both as an additional sponsorship product and a way for families to see recurring, personalized content at games.
On sponsorship standards, Lauren said large-scale sponsorships would require internal approval and that some types of businesses would not be accepted on scoreboard inventory: “We won't have any CBD shops or massage parlors as any of our sponsors on the scoreboards,” she said.
Board members responded positively to the ballpark briefing. Jose, a board member, praised the presentation and said he was excited by the influx of teams and attendees. Aaron, the ballpark general manager mentioned by staff, was credited with much of the day‑to‑day operational leadership during the discussion.
The ballpark team encouraged board members and staff to attend and help staff the welcome table during the opening ceremony on March 13; Lauren said she will circulate the final script and logistics to participating staff and volunteers.
