House Bill 105, which would expand eligibility for a child care improvement fund pilot to include all child care agencies regulated by the Tennessee Department of Human Services, was advanced unanimously by the House Health Full Committee.
The bill, carried in committee by Representative Sharon Trillie Carringer and sponsored in its original form by Leader Lambert, would broaden participation in the pilot during its final year and does not require additional state funding, Carringer told the committee.
Representative Sharon Trillie Carringer, carrying the measure in the Health Committee, said the legislation "allows all child care agencies regulated by the Department of Human Services to be eligible to participate in the child care improvement fund pilot for the last year." She told members the fund had originally been limited to nonprofit agencies and that the change would not require new state appropriations.
Committee members did not ask questions before leadership called the vote. The clerk reported 22 ayes and 0 nays; the bill was recorded as passing out of committee and will move to Calendar and Rules for further consideration.
The Department of Human Services was listed as the administrative sponsor; department staff were present and available to answer questions, though none were asked during the committee deliberation.
Votes at this committee stage do not finalize law; the committee vote sends the bill on to the next step of the House process.
