The Smithville R‑II Board of Education approved a resolution accepting the district’s initial entry into Zone 3 of the Success Ready Student Network (SRSN), the superintendent said. The resolution formalizes district participation and access to exclusive professional development and networking with other Missouri districts pursuing competency‑based learning.
The district explained that entry brings benefits including specialized professional development around competency‑based learning, networking opportunities and occasional day trips to Jefferson City for in‑person sessions. A district staff member said participation is mostly virtual with occasional overnight stays; the group noted a cap of four attendees from each district for in‑person events.
The administration recommended the resolution after the district’s application materials and curriculum artifacts were judged sufficient for Zone 3 acceptance; the board motioned and approved the resolution without recorded roll‑call vote names. The superintendent said districts already farther along — including Liberty and Platte County — are part of the network and that being in Zone 3 positions Smithville to consider accountability waivers in the future, though the superintendent said the district does not plan to aggressively pursue a waiver at this time.
Motion to approve the proposed resolution was made and a second was recorded; the board voted and the motion passed.
