During public comment at the Feb. 18 Oakdale City Council meeting, resident Alvin Lee urged the council to address a large feral cat colony along the river, saying the animals are a nuisance that roam into yards, spray in shops and defecate in gardens.
"These feral cats are a nuisance. They're in our yard," Lee said, adding that neighbors estimate the colony could number "at least 200, maybe 300," and that animal control and the pound had not accepted the animals. He said he had spoken with people who feed the cats but that no neighbor impact study had been performed.
Mayor Barrios and staff asked Lee to leave his contact information with Colleen (city clerk) so the city manager and chief of police could follow up and set a meeting. A staff member said the city would gather more information and work through appropriate channels; Lee thanked the council for listening.
No formal action was taken during the meeting; staff recommended follow-up to collect details and determine next steps.
