Advisory committee member outlines volunteer role, recent trail projects

Jamie Pogue, a member of the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee, described the volunteer advisory group's role in reviewing development plans and helping to place new trail-related amenities, including a frisbee golf course and an off‑leash hiking area at Suncrest.

Pogue said the committee is an advisory body that provides recommendations to city council members. "We have about, depending on the year, 10 to 12 members. It's a volunteer committee, a bunch of citizens that are from different parts of the city, with different interests," he said.

The committee draws from a range of trail users, Pogue said: "We have some mountain bikers. We have some equestrians. We have people who hike or trail run." He described the group's work as reviewing plans for new developments and trying "to tie those into our trail system." The committee seeks citizen input and then tries to implement projects when there is sufficient interest.

As examples of recent work, Pogue said committee members helped locate a frisbee golf course and created an off‑leash hiking area "up at the top of Suncrest." He characterized those as citizen-requested projects the committee helped place within the trail network.

Pogue said he has served on the committee for about 15 years. He did not specify funding sources, approval dates, or any formal council actions related to the projects discussed.
