Pleasantville High JROTC presents Army values to board, urges student leadership

Cadet leaders from Pleasantville High School outlined the Seven Army Values and suggested districtwide adoption of those values to support leadership development.
Cadet leaders from the Pleasantville High School JROTC presented the program’s implementation plan and the ‘‘Seven Army Values’’ to the Pleasantville Board of Education at the Feb. 18 meeting.
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Seon Manley, Cadet Command Sergeant Major Tiffany Twirl and Cadet Major Valeria Caranza described the seven values — loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage — and discussed how the program teaches them to students. The cadets described classroom- and school-level activities to reinforce each value and offered examples of how the values might be implemented across the district.
One cadet speaker said if everyone adopted the values ‘‘we would not only have a district with professional students and staff, but also a district where everyone practices great leadership.’’ Superintendent Dr. Marilyn Martinez commended the cadet leaders and noted students represent the district at community and state events.
The board received the presentation and praised student leadership. No formal action or vote was required for the presentation.
