San Leandro council appoints new boards and commissions members; consent calendar approved

The San Leandro City Council on Feb. 18 voted unanimously, with one member absent, to appoint new members to multiple city boards and commissions and later approved the consent calendar.

The appointments came after the council moved the item forward in the agenda. City Clerk Kelly Clancy introduced the item, and Council Member Azevedo moved “to appoint all the following representatives to boards and commissions,” with Council Member Aguilar seconding. Mayor Gonzales then called the roll; the council recorded six yes votes, Council Member Bolt absent, and the motion passed 6-0-1.

The council immediately administered oaths of office to the newly appointed board and commission members. After the swearing-in, the council took a roughly five-minute recess for photos and completion of oath paperwork with the deputy city clerk.

Later in the meeting the council approved the consent calendar. Council Member Aguilar moved to adopt the consent calendar, with Council Member Vivero Walton seconding. The motion passed by the same 6-0-1 tally with Council Member Bolt absent.

Votes and official actions took place during an otherwise routine meeting that included public comment on unrelated topics and brief council reports. The swearing-in and the consent calendar vote were the primary formal actions taken during the session.

Council members present for the votes were Vice Mayor Bowen, Council Members Vivero Walton, Azevedo, Aguilar, and Simon, and Mayor Gonzales; Council Member Bolt was absent. Following the appointments, the clerk instructed appointees to complete their oath of office forms in the Sister Cities Room.

The council did not take additional formal action on other items during the remainder of the meeting and moved on to public comment and reports.
