Torrington renews retail, club and restaurant liquor licenses; grants microbrewery permit

Torrington City Council members on Feb. 18 held public hearings and approved renewals of the city’s retail, limited club and restaurant liquor licenses for the license term of April 1, 2025, through March 31, 2026. The council also approved a microbrewery permit for Open Barrel Brewing Company.

Chief of Police Matt Johnson told the council the city had worked with the Wyoming Liquor Division on applications and that staff “have no objections to any of the renewals listed.” A number of business representatives spoke briefly in support during the public hearings. Eric Recker, representing Essential Fuels, said the business aimed to “continue on with what we're doing at the store.” Ethan Fitch of Old Grama Fox/ Mint Bar thanked the council and said, “We're seven years into this, and things are going okay.” Eric Alden, representing Chugwater Brewing Company/J and B Liquor, thanked staff for their cooperation.

Council members took separate votes on grouped license categories. Councilman Vikram moved to approve the retail liquor licenses (item 1a); the motion was seconded by Councilman Warren and passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The council then approved limited club licenses (item 1b), restaurant licenses (item 1c) and the Open Barrel microbrewery permit (item 1d) following the same procedure; no objections were recorded during the hearings.

City staff present for licensing matters included the clerk’s office staff who worked with the Wyoming Liquor Division to process applications. The council closed the public hearings after hearing no objections and approved the renewals and the microbrewery permit.
