Colleyville rolls out city challenge coin as a recognition token for staff and citizens

A city staff member presented Colleyville's new challenge coin design to the City Council at the Feb. 18 work session and invited brief council discussion on appropriate uses and distribution.

The presenter said the coins were ordered and previously distributed to council members, and reviewed the tradition's military and civic origins. City staff suggested coins could be used to recognize public safety personnel, staff who demonstrate city values, visiting delegations, speakers, volunteers and citizens who perform notable acts for the community. The presenter noted public safety departments often exchange coins when training or deploying with partner organizations and described the coin as a small commemorative token to strengthen ties and acknowledge service.

Council members responded positively during the discussion, saying the coins are a meaningful, low‑cost token of appreciation for residents and employees. One council member said the coins could be given when council members attend events or speak as a way to recognize someone quickly. No formal policy or criteria was adopted at the work session; the presenter offered to provide additional coins from city office stock upon request.
