Commission approves Good Lane pit crushing contract to stockpile road mix; contractor bid negotiated under budget

The Board of Valley County Commissioners approved a pit-crushing contract for the Good Lane pit after a staff report on Feb. 18. Public-works staff said the contract will produce approximately 25,000 tons of three-quarter-inch road mix and 15 tons of four-inch minus material for county stockpiles.
Public-works staff reported two bids were received; one bid was declared irregular because it lacked the required performance bond. The county negotiated a contract with the other bidder at $2.96 per ton—above last cycle’s rate but within the department’s $300,000 budget for the project. A staff explanation said last year’s rate with the same contractor was $2.45 per ton and that negotiations kept the contract just under the current budget appropriation.
A commissioner moved to approve the Good Lane pit crushing contract as presented; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with commissioners answering "Aye." The board directed staff to finalize the contract documents and return the signed agreement to the contractor for work and delivery to county stockpiles.
Ending: Public-works staff said procurement paperwork (bonding and contract signatures) will be completed and the county will begin crushing and stockpiling material at the Good Lane location.
